Twenty Years On Wines, Some Luxury at Home; 4/19/2024-5/9/2024 (Alicante y Madrid - España): Popped and directly served as an appetizer. Almost six years have passed since the previous bottle of this same vintage. The colour of antique gold. Fragrant, ripe white fruit aromas, wheat with honey, lanolin or candied lemon peel. What a marvel of aromatic complexity at this level. Aged to perfection. Medium body wine on the palate, excellent acidity, good length and a mineral finish. Roasted apple, tangerine, hawthorn flower aftertaste. Definitely a Chenin Blanc with some depth. By the way, a score below 90 is clearly a reflection of bottles uncorked ahead of time.

Descorchado y directamente servido a modo de aperitivo. Han pasado casi seis años desde la botella previa de esta misma añada. El color del oro viejo. Fragante, aromas a frutas blancas maduras, trigo con miel, lanolina o monda de limón confitada. Menuda maravilla de complejidad aromática a este nivel. Envejecido a la perfección. Vino de cuerpo medio al paladar, excelente acidez, buena longitud y un final mineral. Retrogusto a manzana asada, mandarinas o flor de espino. Sin lugar a dudas una Chenin Blanc con algo de profundidad. Por cierto, una puntuación por debajo de 90 es claramente un reflejo de botellas descorchadas antes de tiempo.

Brused plum, marcipan, camomille tartness, very Chenin. Ok I can see why one call out oxididised, but as I have come to taste, its more a character of the varity, area and style of the winemaker. Stating the obious, but I have come across a few lately that can be given the characteristic of ox flabbiness.
Coming to the point this has a beautiful acidity that keeps it fresh and the ripe mature apperance is balanced out. This tension is apparent from the nose out.
Second day; fabulous, stable, not much development. Brused apples. More pronounced acidity, with the tarness and mildness giving way.

Noe reduktiv innledningsvis, men dette blåste bort i løpet av en time med luft. Deretter viste den hint av oksidative toner (overmodne, røde epler), sitrus, flint og mandelessens.
I munnen var den strukturert med høy syre og en rund munnfølelse. Hint av fat, men pent balansert. Ellers er mandel, etter min mening, den dominerende aromaen over sitrusfrukter og epler. Kompleks og deilig, men for meg blir mandel og det oksidative en tanke for dominerende. Når kveite med smørsaus kommer på bordet er vinen imidlertid ypperlig. Dette gjelder også for harde, modne oster, til dessert.

Aromas of nut flours and oils, airy brown spice, quince, apple, pear, hawthorn blossom, a little citrus preserves, wet wool, petrichor... full and tactile on the palate before turning fresh, mineral and lightly grippy, a little honeyed too. Long and intense finish features notes of quince preserves, fresh apples, citrus, minerals and subtle spice, plus beautiful subtle tannic grip, like fruit skins. Surely worth following 5 to 10, maybe much longer, but it's ready now.

Robe évoluée.Arômes typiques du chenin,cad coing,tilleul,pomme.C'est assez plaisant mais cependant pas d'une énorme densité.La bouche est correcte mais pas mirobolante non plus.Je m'attendais à mieux mais c'est certainement l'effet millésime.Ce dernier n'est pas considéré comme "grand".Longueur satisfaisante.Je ne pense pas qu'il puisse aller beaucoup plus haut et vais donc consommer les bouteilles qui me restent assez rapidement.

brought this to a seafood dinner. It had definitely had become rounder and notes of honey and beeswax, quince and chamomile were accentuated since last I had tasted the 2117 vintage a couple of years ago. The mineral notes were still there but it lacked the acidity that i was anticipating. Very silky though and nicely stood up to the butter on my dover sole!

13.5% alcohol. Top quality cork. Pale gold luminous colour.
The nose is not very expansive, but the floral aromas are very elegant. A bit more characterful in the mouth with a superb racy quality and vg length; in excellent condition, and giving the impression that it will remain so for another five years at least.
While I admire the fresh (nearly cutting) style, I can't help being slightly underwhelmed by this bottle given the reputation of the domain, not to mention the attendant price tag. Still a vg wine, but maybe not a totally compelling one on this encounter.
Maybe it just needs more time, or possibly a short decant?

På duft finner vi honning, søte lett overmodne epler, grønt gress og voks.
Frisk på smak med høy syre og medium kropp. Lang og balansert. Virkelig god vin med karakter.

Loire whites and reds: 13% AbV; another classic dry Chenin from old vines in a small domaine run by a mother-daughter team.

slightly golden yellow in the glass with medium body. very reticent; it takes a bit of time and aeration for the bouquet to (grudgingly) reveal itself: white flowers, stone fruits, citrus… and even a hint of nuts. waited for a while to take my first sip, but when i did… wow! a full feeling of flavours hits the palate and coats the tongue, with everything in a lovely harmony: white and yellow fruit notes, acidity, complexity. very dry, with a very long finish.

this is definitely a food wine that has quite a bit of upside potential with a handful of years of bottle age.

2nd of 6, opened 30 minutes, perfect cork and level, showed much better (and better balanced) than August 20 bottle, same flavour profile, rich but properly dry, surprisingly fresh given stated 14.5% ABV, plateau, no rush. Just about F (17.5)..........Savennieres can hold and even improve for decades!

So smooth and transparent in its palette of flavours, a marmelade-like mix yet quite fresh. I would have liked a little more oak, but I should perhaps have opened a chard instead then.

The wine would clearly benefit from more time on the shelf, since the complextity was just hinted at, although growing with time in glass and bottle.

91 with double plusses if you favour the "oaklessness" and give it more time.

Classically chenin nose, rocky, wooly, enticing, beautifully flavored, with nice depth and intensity, lovely saline kicks in early, along with strong acidity. This has so much vibrancy, flavor, interest, complexity, savoriness, really a wonderful Chenin Blanc.

Colour: medium(-) gold
Nose: medium(+) intensity, tertiary, developing. Baked bramley apple with raisins and cinnamon. Ripe peach and nectarine. White flowers. Sugarless pineapple. Honey, lanolin, beeswax, white mushrooms, hay. Barleysugar.
Palate: dry (but with a touch of RS, not enough to be off-dry), medium(+) acidity, high alcohol (14%), medium(+) bodied. Medium(+) intensity, medium(+) finish. Lemon, lemon peel. Baked bramley apple with raisins and cinnamon. Ripe peach and nectarine. White flowers. Sugarless pineapple. Honey, lanolin, beeswax, white mushrooms, hay. Barleysugar. Wet stones.
Conclusions: outstanding! I can remember why I've often rated previous vintages of this wine as among my most favourite white wines ever. It's outstandingly complex and rich. Can drink now, but suited to further ageing.
Seal: natural cork
DAY3: after being left open in the fridge a few days, the wine is still very good. Quite rich and waxy and honeyed, but now maybe with some more lime, lime leaf, and heritage apple character. Still lots of honey and wax and lanolin. Really lovely.

Still an amazing wine.
Floral, waxy, yellow fruits, a hint of something exotic. Full bodied with a length of flavours.
